Friday, February 26th, 2010We proudly inform you that the winners of the 3rd Aareal Award of Excellence in Real Estate Research 2010 are:
Master-/Bachelor-/Diploma Thesis
The winner in the category “Master-/Bachelor-/Diploma Thesis“ is
for his bachelor thesis on “Return forecasts for indirect real estate investments – an approach for open ended real estate funds”.
Oliver Lehmann is currently employed as a trainee at Landesbank Baden-Württemberg in the field of product management and marketing control corporate customers. In 2009, he graduated in business administration with a Bachelor of Arts in Banking at Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University, Stuttgart, Germany.
Research paper
The winner in the category “Research paper” is
for his paper on “Demographics, Human Capital and the Demand for Housing”.
Thies Lindenthal is currently employed at Maastricht University as a PhD candidate at the Department of Finance. He is also the founding director of Finn GmbH, Berlin, Germany. In 2009, he was visiting scholar at the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley. He has spent an ecchange semester at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and has won the Doctoral Prize at the European Real Estate Society in 2007 and was PGDA Visiting Fellow for the month of December, 2008, at Harvard School of Public Health.
Dissertation
For the third category “Dissertation” the winner is
for his dissertation on “The Housing Transition in Mexico: Local Impacts of National Policy”
Paavo Monkkonen is currently employed as an assistant Professor at the Department of Urban Planning and Design at the University of Hong Kong. After his Master of Public Policy at the University of California, Los Angeles, in 2005, he gained his PhD in City and Regional Planning at the University of California, Berkeley, in December 2009. Since that he is a principal investigator on Spatial Dynamics of the Hong Kong Housing Market. He also serves as an editor for the Berkeley Planning Journal. He has also worked as a GIS and Planing Consultant at a Wind Energy Project for Energia Sustentable, Tijuana, Mexico since 2007. In 2009 he won the Benjamin Stevens Fellowship from the Regional Science Association.
Congratulations to all of them for submitting excellent research papers in order to advance the interdisciplinary research activities within the real estate industry!

Award ceremony preparations at the EBS Real Estate Congress
Thursday, February 25th, 2010There is only one day left for the announcement of all three winners of the Aareal Award of Excellence in Real Estate Research 2010! There are 9 nominees but only three of them will be the winners and be awarded with the pricemoney and books, worth 12.000 euros. The ceronomy will start tomorrow at 10.30 a.m. at the 11th EBS Real Estate Congress at European Business School (EBS)!
Nominated for the shortlist in the first category “Master-/Bachelor-/Diploma Thesis“ are:

Preparations for the prize-giving ceremony
Wednesday, February 24th, 2010While we are awaiting the Award prize-giving ceremony a lot of people are working hard for it. Some impressions of today’s preparations:
Aareal Bank Group and EBS Real Estate Management Institute started this blog as a joint project. I’m working for Aareal Bank as a Public Relations Manager and this time it’s my turn to post these pictures while Kirsten is still working

Don’t forget: 11th EBS Real Estate Congress on 26 February 2010
Thursday, February 4th, 2010All winners of the Aareal Award of Excellence in Real Estate Research 2010 will be presented at the 11th EBS Real
Estate Congress. There will be one winner in each category: “Research Paper”, “Dissertation”, “MSc-/BSc-/Diploma Thesis”. Over 40 authors have submittet their theses which were evaluated by over 20 international reviewers. About 40% of the authors live outside Germany – which is a great success as the Aareal Award is an international award. We’re excited to announce all winners!
The price money and book gifts will be given by all three founders of the Aareal Award: Profesor Nico B. Rottke, EBS Real Estate Management Institute, Dr Wolf Schumacher, Aareal Bank AG and Olaf Hütten, Immobilien Manager Verlag. All pictures and interviews with the winners will be blogged right away on the 26 February directly from the 11th EBS Real Estate Congress.
The Congress aims on bringing together all experts within the real estate industry from the industry, university and the politics. It is an event where students, professors and professionals discuss the topic: “Underdog or hidden champion? The real estate industry between claim and reality”.
Join us at the EBS campus Schloss Reichartshausen near Wiesbaden and meet and greet all people interested in real estate.
